1. The county was originally named “Mosquito County,” but was changed in the 1980’s due to it large amount of citrus being grown at the time. (80,000 Acres)
2. Orange County citrus farmers were moving out of the county for warmer weather. In Orange County there was too much freezing temperature in the winter. It was not efficient to grow citrus.
3. As I answered in question 2, Orange county farmers were moving farther south due to freezing conditions. As they move out neighborhoods and developments took they're place.
4. There are approximately 896,344 people living in Orange County as of the 2000 census.
5.The population of Orange county is dramatically rising in the last 10 years. By 2050, the population is estimated to be 2.5 million. As the population is rising the county is becoming more and more urban and less rural and less farmland.
